Owl jugs and owl vases in handmade Danish ceramics – Erik Bendtsen
Exciting NEWS from us. Add something charming and unique to your home with the beautiful owl jugs and owl vases from the renowned Danish ceramist Erik Bendtsen. Each owl is hand-thrown and shaped with an eye for both function and narrative – a piece of living Danish ceramics that embodies history, humor, and warmth.
The popular owl jugs can, of course, be used as jugs, but they are just as lovely as a vase – with flowers, branches, or simply as a decorative element in themselves.
Erik's design beautifully balances the classic and the playful – with clear respect for Danish craft tradition.
A ceramist with history and craftsmanship in his hands. Erik Bendtsen took over Faaborg Pottemageri in 1983 and has had his hands in clay ever since.
Today, he has a workshop in Copenhagen K, where he continues to throw his popular collection of owls. The first owl jugs were created around the year 2000 and have since been a permanent and beloved element in his production.
The tradition of owls in clay goes way back in Danish ceramic history — from Skotterup in the 1860s to Lillerød in the 1950s. Erik has continued and refined this tradition in his own unique way, and his owls are now collector's items for many ceramic enthusiasts.
A small piece of Danish design history for your home. According to stories, Karen Blixen herself had an owl jug at Rungstedlund, which she used for flower arrangements in her home. You can do the same – and let your owl vase from Erik Bendtsen bring soul, personality, and Danish design history into your home.
