The Story Behind the Chubby Cup at unika:k

The Chubby design has been part of unika-k.dk since the webshop started.

During maternity leave in Frederiksberg, I – Tine, founder of unika:k – one day strolled past Helle Gram's workshop and shop on Allégade. There I suddenly held the round, chubby Chubby mug in my hand – and was instantly in love.

The distinctive shape, the strong handle, and the soft lines felt both modern and timeless at the same time. Shortly after, a collaboration with Helle Gram began, and the Chubby mug became one of the very first mugs on unika-k.dk.

Today, it is available in more than 20 beautiful colors – but the design is still the same.

From Frederiksberg to Frederikssund – the craft lives on

Since the first years in Frederiksberg, Helle has moved her cozy workshop to scenic surroundings in Frederikssund. Here, the Chubby mugs are still cast with the same love for the craft.

Contact between us is almost weekly – and over the years, the collaboration has turned into a friendship.

It is precisely this close relationship with the ceramist that makes the Chubby mug something special at unika:k.

The idea of a Chubby mug with a name

The popularity of the Chubby mug inspired us to make it even more personal.

In 2016, the idea arose at unika:k: What if you could have a name, date, or a small text stamped into the mug?

This was the beginning of the Chubby name mug.

When the mug is ordered with text, Helle Gram hand-stamps the letters into the soft clay before the mug is glazed and fired.
